quiet vacation near Mt. Hood

Please advice on where to stay (which is the nicest town/village/lodge) when visiting Mt. Hood for easy trails in the forest, fishing and fresh air? Thank you very much for your advice! Leo

I think the best town relatively close to Mt Hood is Hood River. It has restaurants, brew pubs, lots of places to stay and good hiking the Columbia River Gorge. Check out VRBO or traveloregon website. We like the B%26amp;B in White Salmon: http://www.innofthewhitesalmon.com/

If you must stay on Mt Hood, look for places near Cooper Spur. Great fishing can be had all over (like at Lost Lake or on the Columbia River itself). Good fly fishing over on the Deschutes River at Maupin, OR.

A must try is the Mt Hood Brewery in Government Camp. Timberline Lodge is of course a great choice as well for lodging - 6,000%26#39; up on Mt Hood!

You might try the following in Welches:

Close to Wildwood Recreation Area, which has lots of easy hiking/trails along the river. Close to the Trout Farm, while not sport fishing, they supply all the gear and you don%26#39;t need a license (not sure where you are traveling from). Plus you are guaranteed to catch something.

You can also check VRBO and see if there is something else in the Mt. Hood area that strikes your fancy.

If you are looking to combine Mt. Hood with the Gorge, then I would go with the suggestion of the Hood River area.
