Vancouver, BC to San Francisco, CA

I am planning a road trip from Vancouver, BC to San Francisco, CA this summer. I would like to take the trip along the Coast for the more scenic route. From what i understand this will take longer but will be worth it (approx. 21 hours??).

I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for where to stay along the way- we were looking for B%26amp;B%26#39;s along the way.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

21 hours will force you to make some sacrifices.

Depending on how long it will take you to get across the border, you have to figure at least 6-7 hours to get to Eugene down I-5. I would suggest cutting across on Hwy #20 from Albany/Corvallis to Newport and trying to get to Yachats for the night. The next day will take you down the beautiful central and southern Oregon coastline and through the redwoods. My suggestion for the next night would be the Benbow Inn in the Garberville area. See:

Some of those on the forum will tout the northern coast, especially Seaside, Cannon Beach and Astoria (which isn%26#39;t really on the coast), but I personally don%26#39;t think you can do the whole coastline in the time limit you mentioned. You may not be able to do what I have suggested either, for that matter.

How many nights are you planning along the way?

I am planning 2 nights along the way; a 3 day trip to arrive in San Francisco.

Many ways to carve up this coastal journey. I%26#39;ll tell you right now that 21 hours is far too conservative an estimate on a coastal journey -- do not expect to move very fast along the coastal route.

To be honest, I am partial to northern Oregon and Cannon Beach area, but you%26#39;ll have to decide if you have the time. If you choose to do it, take the I-5 down to Kelso/Longview, WA and then cross and follow the Columbia river on OR-30 out to the coast at Astoria.

If you%26#39;re on a tighter time frame, skip Oregon Coast altogether (and check out Portland, or Mount St. Helens) and then head to the coast from Grants Pass along US-199 and arrive at Crescent City, CA. This way you can put along the California coast and not feel the pressure.

Basically, if you%26#39;re looking for ';scenic'; options you can%26#39;t go wrong with any choice -- just avoid the interstate and boring stretch from Redding through to the Bay Area (no offense to people who live there!)

Two nights is doable . . . I%26#39;d drive a bit more on the first day to make the second and third days a little lighter.

So, down I-5 to Salem, then take Hwy 22/18 over to the coast. Continue on south on Hwy 101 to either Newport or Yachats. Depending upon your border crossing time, this should take about 8 hours or so.

Next night would be in Eureka, about 6.5 hours. Then it%26#39;s about 5-6 hours to SF. You%26#39;ll stay on Hwy 101 all the way to SF.

Newport has about 6 or 8 B%26amp;B%26#39;s. There are B%26amp;B%26#39;s located in Eureka and in the smaller towns both north and south of it.

How does that itinerary sound?

That sounds wonderful.I am not set on doing this trip in 21 hours- we are set on doing it in 3 days (2 nights... I would like to drive the most scenic route from the Vancouver Border/Seattle all the way to San Francisco if possible in that time frame.

Does anyone have any siggestions on B%26amp;B%26#39;s to look into or places to stop for a view/lunch on our long drive?

Here is a list of reviews for B%26amp;B%26#39;s in Newport:
