Need Portland Sightseeing Suggestions

Greetings,

My wife %26amp; I are visiting Portland for 3 days for Memorial weekend. We arrive on Friday at 9:30 AM. I thought to visit the Japanese Garden, The Rose garden in Washington Park %26amp; explore downtown on Friday (we are staying at Paramount Hotel). Saturday we will drive the Historic Columbia River Highway, and visit Mt. Hood. I鈥檓 not sure what we should do on our last day. Should we drive to Mt St Helen, stay in Portland, visit Salem, 鈥? I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

dadras,

What are your interests?

Here is what I would do:

Friday - lunch at the Laurelwood in NW Portland, check out the two parks you mention, skip downtown, drive over to Hawthorne Blvd in SE for dinner at 3 Doors Down, catch a movie at the Baghdad, Academy Theater or hike up on Mt Tabor and watch the sunset.

Saturday -

Drive the Gorge to Hood River. Explore the town. Have lunch in a place that looks good or that you have read about. Head up to Timerbline Lodge for a glass of wine. At night, check out the jazz in Portland at Jimmy Maks or at some other live music venue that suits your tastes. Lots of great places for dinner, Cafe Mingo, Blue Hour, Laurel Kitchen, Hubers, and on and on. We like Alberta St in NE.

Sunday -

Breakfast at Cadillac Cafe in NE, try a McMenamins for sure - Kennedy School is about the best. If you want to head out of town on Sunday, I would say Silver Falls State Park - 11 waterfalls, some 200 ft tall that you can walk behind - best park in Oregon.

we spent a week in portland and its environs

on friday , go to pittock mansion when you are at the gardens- it is close by ( but a drive) and make your gardens tour complete by going to the chinese gardens downtown.

on saturday stay in town and go to the farmers market in town- it is about 12 blocks long with lots of samples and interesting products and then go to the portland art museum which is close by.

after that, go to the saturday flea market- like 300 stands many with really nice jewelry, crafts, art, etc.

you can do your day trip on sunday ( we did the same trip it was outstanding)

enjoy

On your last day you could visit some Willamette Valley Wineries. Many of them will be having special events over the Memorial Day weekend.
