Is the Major Motel in Tovolana still in operation?

Many years ago we used to stay at the Major Motel in Tovolana, next door to where the Stephanie Inn is now. Can anyone tell me if it is still in operation? Doesn%26#39;t seem to be much on line about it. If anyone has stayed there recently, please make comments. Thanks!

The Major Motel is now the Ocean Lodge, I believe. It was very reasonably priced when it was Major Motel, but now that it%26#39;s Ocean Lodge it%26#39;s up there with the more spendy places in Cannon Beach.

The Ocean Lodge is a very pretty property, check out their website, it has won awards for hotels with prettiest views. Enjoy Cannon Beach! :)

I thought Major Motel was on the north side of Stephanie Inn. We stayed there a couple times too, GrannyM, but I%26#39;m pretty sure it%26#39;s not there any more. Too bad, really; it was one of the best values in town. There%26#39;s nothing really comparable today.

Did someone ask a question about Ocean Lodge?

GrammyM, seems to be still in business. No website, but it is listed on several general lodging sites:

It%26#39;s still there? My earliest memories of the Oregon coast are of many weeks spent at either Major Motel or Viking Cottages, which was nearby, possibly on the site of the Stephanie...I still prefer the basic 1950%26#39;s type coast motel for an old-fashioned -just-enjoy-the-beach-forget-the-fancy-food experience!

No, I don%26#39;t think so, linnmac. The telephone number shown in half-Brit%26#39;s post gets you the Ocean Lodge.

I stand by my previous claim that Major Motel is gone and is now Ocean Lodge. I did a little searching on it this time, to make sure (since in my previous post I was just saying what I thought I remembered).

From the first review for Ocean Lodge on TripAdvisor, July 2003 (not my review; I%26#39;ve never stayed there):

';It just breaks your heart to have the perfect beachfront retreat redesigned and priced out of reach of all but wealthy urban professionals with money to burn. This used to be the Major Motel, a funky but perfect beachfront place with kitchenettes and immediate beach access out your sliding glass door. It catered to families, and was bustling with kids and beachcombers who could walk right off the beach into their own rooms... Somebody rebuilt the entire thing, fake Northwest Lodge-themed it, renamed it, and doubled the price of the rooms - rooms featuring tiny little fridges and no range, forcing guests to spend even more money eating out every single meal.';

There are other mentions in other Ocean Lodge reviews referring to its past life as Major Motel.

Thank you to all who took the time to reply to my question about the Major Motel. It makes sense that it no longer exists and is now the Ocean Lodge. We loved our vacations there, many years ago. I%26#39;m sad that the days of affordable, comfortable, right on the beach family vacations are over. We were hoping to take the grandkids and renew the memories, but Cannon Beach has become much to expensive a destination for us. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks Meg, just shows how outdated many websites are! Six years, that%26#39;s ridiculous!

No, they aren%26#39;t ;-)

Cannon Beach has become very expensive and upscale, true. But there are other towns in Oregon that still have inexpensive lodging on the beach, they are simply farther away from Portland.

Here is one example, south of Waldport:
