Advice for four day trip

Help us plan a trip and where to stay.

We need to get away for four days in late May. It has been years since I used to visit Portland area on business. I loved visiting, so now am considering taking the wife.

We like to do easy to moderate hikes, same with mountain biking. Like a trip we took to Asheville, we are thinking fly in day one. Stay in a B%26amp;B or boutique hotl somewhere, find a fun place for dinner. Get out into the mountains or gorges during the day. Repeat dinner at different places, maybe find some coffee/desert shops. Fly home on last day.

Advice for four day trip

Off-hand, I%26#39;d suggest one day at the coast, one in the Columbia River gorge, one at Mt. St. Helens, and one just poking around the city. If you will be here over a weekend, plan Saturday in the city. In case of lousy weather, Plan B for one of the days could be wine tasting at some of the bazillion wineries less than an hour SW of town.

';....find a fun place for dinner.'; You want good food, too? ;-) My current favorites are Le Pigeon, Sel Gris, Toro Bravo; outstanding food at each. And they could even qualify as ';fun';. Other good ones: Caffe Mingo, Piazza Italia, Fratelli, Clyde Common. Or, you can always make a nice meal of wine and small plates at places like Noble Rot, Bar Due, or Bar Mingo.

If you%26#39;re looking for a real Pacific NW kind of experience, stay at one of the McMenamin%26#39;s places, like the Kennedy School: http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=57 . Lots of visitors have good things to say about Inn at Northrup Station, too. Otherwise, I%26#39;m not sure what qualifies as ';boutique';. Hotel Lucia, The Governor, Hotel De Luxe?

Are you planning on staying downtown and just making day trips to areas outside the city?

Defintely plan on visiting the Columbia River Gorge, and doing the loop around the mountain.

HI there and welcome! The coast is only about 90 minutes from Portland, an easy day trip. I would suggest spending time in Cannon Beach and Seaside which is about ten minutes from Cannon Beach. You could enjoy the beach and have dinner at Yummy Wine Bar in Seaside, one of the best places on the coast right now. www.seasideor.com Enjoy your travels! :)
