Hike suggestions; Roadtrip Portland to Spokane

Day 2 of our July roadtrip to Glacier will take us from Portland to Spokane. We will travel through the Columbia Gorge and would like to spend a few hours on a trail somewhere along the way. Have read about about the many falls, but can%26#39;t make up my mind. It would be great to find a good hike about halfway (or a bit earlier) in the day.

Would appreciate any suggestions for this stretch of road.

If you have not been to Glacier, you are in for a treat, especially if into hiking.

Would you explain what you mean by ';a good hike'; as we all have different perspectives. Time, elevation gain, length, etc.

Cannot go wrong with Eagle Creek:

You can make it as short or as long as you like and it will be a great hike whatever you do.

BUT, I have made drive from here (Portland) to Spokane a number of times and do have to say that if you do much of a hike in the Gorge, you still have a long way to go to get to Spokane. Even further if you opt for any of the well-known waterfall hikes on the Oregon side. But, to my knowledge there are not many hiking options the rest of the way to Spokane once you hit The Dalles. You do need to have a Northwest Forest Pass for most Gorge hikes:

You are going to love Glacier and if you have not found it yet, be sure and check out the Glacier Chat site for everything you could want to know about that location: http://glacierparkchat.com/phpBB3/

Thanks voyaging and go ducks for your thoughts. We would like to find a walk or hike anywhere from 2-6 miles total to break up our long ride. Hills, flats, water or not, we enjoy all kinds of scenery and don%26#39;t mind a few hills or elevation gain/drop. I was suprised to read about the day use fee. Good to have that information.

Any other suggestions gladly received.
