Hotel Suggestions

Coming to Portland June 12th-18th. Plan on spending the first 2 nights in Portland and then 3 nights on the coast. Will spend the last night (17th) in Portland so we can fly out the next day. Would appreciate any suggestions on a hotel that we can book for the first 2 nights and possibly the last. We will go to a baseball game the first night and then head to the Columbia River Gourge area for a day trip. I am not sure where the ballpark is located so thought I would just ';ask the experts';

We normally stay in no frills hotels with cont. breakfast, nothing more than a place to sleep at night.

Thanks,Lisa

The first part of your trip is during the Rose Festival, and room rates are higher and rooms harder to come by. That said, I would book asap. As for places to stay, I personally prefer to be right in the heart of downtown which happens to be walkable to PGE Park. As for no frills hotels within walking distance, check out the Mark Spencer. I have not stayed there, but the location is good and it gets good reviews here and at other travel boards. Also, Park Lane Suites and Inn at Northrup Station.

Not sure your budget, but in addition to The Mrk Spencer. The Embassy Suites downtown is an option, along with the Ace Hotel. Check %26#39;em all out. And welcome to Portland!

I think it depends on where you%26#39;re seeing the baseball game (PGE Park?) and whether or not you mind driving. Since it%26#39;s at the tail end of the Rose Festival you might find some vacancies at the downtown properties, but you might also be okay with something in the burbs. Since the gorge is in your mind, maybe that Comfort Inn on 82nd? That way you could take the MAX to the game and still be on the east side of the metro area for easy access to the gorge. It%26#39;s also close to the airport to ease your mind on the last day of your trip.

I will check into the Comfort Inn on 82nd, I usually stay in those hotels on business trips, maybe I can get some ';points'; while I am on vacation. Can you tell me more about the Max. Can we take it to the PGE ballpark and back? I would rather stay in the burbs than downtown and we don%26#39;t fly out until the afternoon so no problem staying too far from the airport. How far is the gorge area and other ideas nearby that we can see in a day and then head back to our hotel in Portland.

Thanks again to everyone. This is the first time I have used tripadvisor for a detailed trip and you guys are amazing.

The Gorge and waterfalls is only about 30-45 minutes from downtown Portland.. You will want to take the Historic Highway for the trip there, come back on 84 .. that will get you back into town fast..

Hmmm... I don%26#39;t recommend staying anywhere on 82nd. It doesn%26#39;t have the best reputation. It it just a strip of car lots, dive bars, pawn shops, strip joints and shady characters. If anything, head west to Beaverton or maybe stay at Kennedy School, Edgefield or Jupiter.
