Suggestions for 1st time visit

My husband and I (60%26#39;s) will be flying into

Portland and renting a car for 1 week in July. Would like to see the coast and also inland scenic sights. We can%26#39;t do a lot of hiking. Where would you suggest we stay on the coast and inland to be close to points of interest? Also, what are some places we shouldn%26#39;t miss on our first trip?

Suggestions for 1st time visit

Must see from Portland area:

Mt. St. Helens: Easy day trip from Portland

Columbia River Gorge -- ditto (be sure to drive the Historic Scenic Hiwy

Anywhere along the Oregon Coast--however the area around Newport/Yachats might be less crowded.

You would probably enjoy visiting Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville and seeing Howard Hughes%26#39; Spruce Goose airplane.

What are your interests?--History, scenic areas, wineries, parks and gardens?? And your budget--how much do you want to spend for accomodations?

How many nights do you want to spend on the coast? All in one spot?

Thanks for your advise. We were thinking of

dividing our time in half. Staying in one place

along the coast and one place inland. One other

thought was to visit Vancouver while we were there too.Do you think that it%26#39;s too much to cover in one

week? What cities would you suggest to stay in

on the coast and inland?

If you base your stay in Portland, you can take daytrips to the places you mention or you can stay a couple of nights elsewhere.

From Portland to Cannon Beach/Coast , it is about a 90 minute drive, to the Gorge would be about 45 minutes .. hotels in the Cannon Beach area, during summer all have 2 night minimums and farther south too... and of course, rates are higher/high.

Portland itself is packed with points of interest, wonderful sightseeing that would keep you busy for a week, combined with a day trip to the Coast and one spent at the Gorge/Falls, you would have a lovely holiday.

Vancouver is just across a bridge from Portland, 15-20 minutes.. unless you are talking about Vancouver BC?

What made you choose Portland? What places are there that you don%26#39;t want to miss?
