Kid-friendly Restaurants in Yachats

My husband and I are planning a trip to Yachats with our two daughters ages 7 and 3. Can you recommend any good kid-friendly restaurants in the area? My daughters are very well behaved and do well at most restaurants but I assume there are some that are not child appropriate. Thanks for your help.

Hi %26#39;Mom.

I am not really the best respondent for you, but as you have no hits at the moment...

we were in Yachats last winter and ate at the Drift Inn. It was not my favorite place, to be quite honest, but there are those who say I am too picky, so I will tell you this about it- when we were there, which was a Saturday evening in the winter, there were many children present and it did not seem to pose any problems. We felt that the service was unnecessarily slow( it took us over a half hour to be served the appetizer) and the food overpriced, ( $35 for 2 razor clams???) and the overall noise level was very loud to us. That being said, there were numerous tables with children and the menu would easily accommodate the ';usual'; chid%26#39;s tastebuds. Also, they had live music in the evenings at that time, which could be a plus- IF they turn down the volume!!

I recall a nearby place that was not open at the time that- I think- was called the Blue Whale which would be very casual I%26#39;m sure and an easy place for youngsters.

We stopped in at the Adobe, and I have to say that I would probably not take children there. The bar was downstairs and the smoke nearly choked us in the upper level. However, it occurs to me that Oregon has just instigated the no smoking laws this year, so it might be ok...the view of the ocean is terrific from there.

I guess this is a pretty wishy-washy response, but maybe there is something here you can use. Hopefully one of the more knowledgable folks will chime in and help you out.

Thanks for bumping this up, footloose :-)

I would not take children to the Landmark, which is overpriced anyway. There is an upscale, expensive restaurant in town called the River House. Children are welcome, but it is quite pricey.

Other than those, they will be welcome anywhere. The Adobe is all non-smoking . . . footloose, if you were upstairs, you were in the bar area, not the restaurant! Everything is non-smoking now.

Leroy%26#39;s Blue Whale has gone way downhill and frankly is not very good. The Drift Inn can be very loud in the evenings.

There are many more restaurants in Newport, a half hour to the north, and children are welcome almost everywhere. There is a decent little place in Waldport, 8 miles north called the Salty Dawg, right on the bay. Waldpot also has a Subway ;-)

Blue Whale was like Denny%26#39;s without the quality. If that makes sense. :) Basic, should work well enough.

Drift Inn, as noted above, PA set a bit loud for guitar strumming and singing, but pleasant enough. Kids there loved going up to put tips in the jar. Food is mixed, their seafood lasagna was, IMO, fabulous. Burgers, OK. Clam chowder, bland. We found the service small town friendly, and pretty good if they remember to check to see if you need more water - or beer.

Oh well, it%26#39;s a vacation.

Did you check the box ';Restaurants';, left hand column? Find reviews of them. Watch the dates, however.

Thanks for all your advice on child friendly restaurants. I like to eat at nice, more upscale restaurants when I%26#39;m on vacation and hate feeling like I have to stick to places like ';Dennys'; if I have children with me. I think I%26#39;ll try the River House. It%26#39;s had some very good reviews.

Thanks for the correction! I would hate to mislead someone inadvertently......
