restaurant closings: ashland

Darn...I had never been to Monet, but always intended to some day...for a special occasion. Oh, well, I won%26#39;t go hungry in Ashland.

restaurant closings: ashland

yes, the gardens at monet were lovely; i think in it%26#39;s heyday, monet was fine, but in recent years, it%26#39;s pink walls matching pink linens and monet prints had tired...you are right, you will not go hungry: chateaulin has a great prix fix and try New Sammy%26#39;s for lunch or dinner - classically trained french finds home in one of the best slow-food movement stars! it%26#39;s wonderful

New mexican restaurant where Pilafs used to be (still in construction).

Surprised about Pita Pit. Thought it was doing well.

New Irish pub/restaurant in same local where cd/record shop used to be. Think it%26#39;s on 2nd.

So, it sounds as if some have closed, but others have opened - seems about the same number of each.

Thanks for the info, we finally made it to Sammy%26#39;s for lunch, it was very good. A few of our favorites in Ashland: Peerless, Chateaulin, Amuse, Lark%26#39;s @ the Springs. Standing Stone has a really pretty building, the food is pretty common fare but a nice place when everything else is closed. Beasey%26#39;s on the Creek also is in a pretty setting with good food. We always look forward to dining in this area! :)

Is there a dining scholarship available for Ashland. I can%26#39;t afford to eat at any of those places on a regular basis!

We pick ONE ';special occasion'; meal during our trip, and all of those ';favorites'; fit into that category. (Except maybe Standing Stone... which was gross the last time we visited.)

Thank goodness Greenleaf, Brothers, Pangea, and Grilla Bites are all still open. My tastebuds can hardly wait till May!

In keeping with the theme of restaurants not requiring you to be a lottery winner, fat cat with multiple homes, etc., here are a few reasonably priced restaurants that we have found enjoyable on several occasions. Brothers isn%26#39;t what it used to be, but is still good for breakfast, brunch and a corned beef sandwich (although they weren%26#39;t carrying Dr. Brown%26#39;s cream soda last time we were there). Black Sheep can be a lot of fun. We haven%26#39;t eaten yet at Dragonfly, but our friends really liked it. Wild Goose gets knocked as a Denny%26#39;s wannabe, but we%26#39;ve always enjoyed our breakfasts there. Lela%26#39;s was the hottest restaurant among locals last year and is a bit more expensive, but still not outrageous. We also usually pick one special restaurant for our visit and try different places for the rest of the meals.

I think you%26#39;re like most of the rest of us, oregonpoppa and fiveforefun; one splurge meal per visit. The difference is that some Ashland visits are for several nights, whereas others just an overnight stop on the way to or from somewhere else.

Not that anyone asked, but since we%26#39;re listing favorites, I%26#39;ll add Liquid Assets to the mix. Nice little wine bar with a menu selection that allows for eith a light meal, or the splurge.

We also enjoyed a very nice meal last Spring at Winchester Inn, I have a review of our time there. Nice to see it is listed as #1 in Ashland on this site. :)

Wish I could dine like Syrahgirl, especially if she picked up the tab!
