Cannon Beach or Wheeler or Arch Cape

I get the impression that Cannon Beach is the preferred place to stay but I wondered if staying at the Old Wheeler Hotel -- which would save a few dollars and looks like the kind of place I like -- would also be a good location for that area. At present, I am leaning toward Shaws in Arch Cape because it has air, is less expensive when you consider breakfast is included, and is ocean front. But I have only found 2 older reviews on the place -- both good. I know it is quieter there and we will have to drive to Cannon Beach to eat etc. Would the Old Wheeler Inn be a better location? It would save about $50 a night which is attractive and the rooms seem nice.

Cannon Beach or Wheeler or Arch Cape

It really depends on what you are looking for. MOST people that come to the Oregon coast want to stay at or VERY near the beach. Both Arch Cape and Cannon Beach offer that option, while Wheeler is inland about 1 1/2 miles as the crow flies.

The Old Wheeler Hotel is very nice. Years ago it was the Wheeler Clinic. It has gone through several iterations since. Most rooms have great views of the Nehalem River estuary and coast range mountains with a glimps of the ocean in the distance. It is located right on busy hwy 101, but guest rooms are all on the second floor. From Wheeler, it%26#39;s about a 10 minute drive to the beach at Manzanita (which you should also consider staying at) and about 30 minutes to Cannon Beach. If budget is the driving factor, I%26#39;d stay in Wheeler.

I am not familiar with any of the lodging options at Arch Cape, but it%26#39;s a very quiet residential community on a great beach, though it is lacking in stores, restaurants and shops, unlike the other locations.

You don%26#39;t say when you will be visiting, but generally, there are only a handful of days each year where AC is needed. The prevailing winds are from the NW during the summer, comming off of the Pacific Ocean, which at it%26#39;s warmest, is about 54潞. Even on those rare days when the winds shift to the east and the temperatures spike, it normally cools off into the 50%26#39;s at night.

Arch Cape is very pretty and quiet, I think you should stay there, oceanfront is very nice on the Oregon Coast! I hope you have a wonderful trip. :)
