best oysters in Portland?

Our daughter is taking us to Orcas for an anny party.

Return trip will involve stay in Portland.

Need rec. for best fresh fried oysters in the area (staying at McMenamins Kennedy). Thnx.

best oysters in Portland?

They may not be fried, but Alberta Street Oyster Bar, usually has a good selection of fresh oysters: http://albertaoyster.com/default.cfm. Any time we%26#39;ve been there, every other dish we%26#39;ve had has been very good, too. A plus for you is that the restaurant is within walking distance of Kennedy School.

I see the period at the end of the sentence is messing up the link, so you%26#39;ll have to copy and paste without it.

Thanks much, mistletoe. How far is ';walking distance'; for you? One of our party has about a 1/4 mile limit...

Close to 1/2 mile, NUmpquaDoe. So, since you%26#39;ll be driving anyway, another place to consider would be Southpark Seafood Grill, in the park blocks downtown. I know they have fresh oysters on the menu, just not sure if they%26#39;re fried.

The one place I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll find fried oysters is Dan %26amp; Louis Oyster Bar. I haven%26#39;t been there in years, because, aside from the oysters, I didn%26#39;t think the food was very good. But, judging from the website, it looks like they%26#39;ve made some changes. Maybe worth trying again.

Question, are you ';stuck'; on ';fried'; oysters? If the goal is not to eat them raw, there are many choices. If you want them fried, any Denny%26#39;s can probably hoist out some pre-battered oyster chunks.

If you want REAL oysters, cooked, you will find tasty tidbits at Alberta Street Oyster House; the Original Jakes; Seasons and Regions; as well as so many other great eateries.

Another idea, and I have not looked at the menu lately, BUT, staying at Kennedy School, you will be so close to Salty%26#39;s on the Columbia. An easy suggestion for seafood.

No, not fixated on fried oysters, just not raw.

Terrific help from all of you. Many thanks! Will check out all suggestions.

%26lt;%26lt;If you want REAL oysters, cooked...%26gt;%26gt;

Are they serving fake oysters somewhere in town, PDXWineauxs? ;-)

NUmpquaDoe, start with oyster shooters to ease your way into eating them raw. A little cocktail sauce, some horseradish.... I had one a couple weeks ago that was served in a shot of vodka... to borrow from Rachael Ray; yummo! ;-)

Mmmmm.....

I%26#39;ve read that seafood inspectors won%26#39;t eat seafood, period, so will hold off on shooters (actually it%26#39;s mainly because of the slithery texture...)

I think so...you know...those ';family style'; restaurants that take the pre-breaded oysters out of a bag and plop them in a deep fryer. I simply cannot call them real oysters. ;-)
