art walk and dinner

we will be landing in portland early afternoon on thursday may 7. i would like to go to the monthly art walk that night after checking in. what is the easiest place to start the walk after taking the free bus from the downtown area? what would be a good but not fancy restaurant for dinner near the galleries that night. would the restaurants be very crowded because of the openings.

thanks

I suggest you wait until the First Thursday website - http://www.firstthursdayportland.com/ - is updated, so you know which gallery is showing what, before planning your walk.

Regardless, most participating galleries are in or near the Pearl District, where you%26#39;ll have plenty of options for a nice dinner. Given you%26#39;re not looking for ';fancy';, which I assume means ';fine dining';, I suggest you consider Fratelli%26#39;s (or its next door Bar Due), Paragon, Everett St. Bistro, or Piazza Italia. You might also consider Clyde Common, which isn%26#39;t really in the Pearl District, but just a short walk away.

I lived in the Pearl and never missed a First Thursday.. it is a loads of fun and really doesn%26#39;t matter where you begin.

If you take the Streetcar, you can get on and off wherever you like but I would start at Couch and 10th and just wander.

The galleries are scattered all through the area so you can find plenty of eating options.

I like mistletoes recommendations..

We often went to Piazza Italia, it is right down the street from the Art School and they always have something fantastic going, drummers, dancers etc .. Even the banks have art exhibits in them, on Glisan and on NW 13th you can walk for quite a few blocks where the streets are closed and all sorts of people have set up little booths .. selling blown glass, paintings, etc.

Paragon is right there, bluehour is fun if you sit outside.. as is Everett St Bistro, although they are just as nice inside..

It is SO much fun .
