Ft Stevens-camping

My husband and our two children would like to camp at Ft. Stevens this summer. Has anyone camped there before? We will be in a trailer, so would want hook ups. I have looked at the brochure online, which shows a map of the campground. What loop would you reccomend? Thanks!!

We haven%26#39;t camped there but have been here many times, it%26#39;s a beautiful area, the Wreck of the Peter Iredale is there and there are miles of trails for biking or walking. Also check out Coffenbury Lake in Fort Stevens. Enjoy your time at the coast, if you like chinese food, Kim%26#39;s Kitchen in Warrenton is pretty good, with views of the marina there. :)

Nearly all the campsites at Ft Stevens are full-hookup. Having said that, I still prefer loops, D, E, F, G, I and J (C and H are okay too). These loops have been redone within the past 4-5 years with modern ammenities. I would try for the back side of I or J loop against the sanddune (81, 83, 85, 187, 189, 192, 194, 196, 198, 199).

It is a great campground, and a great area to explore. Not too far from home, so you could consider doing a ';campground reconnaissance'; day trip including Ft. Stevens, Devil%26#39;s Lake in Lincoln City, and South Beach in Newport. I have a Camping in Oregon book where I make notes on best loops and favorite campgrounds so I can remember over time.

we have camped several places on the Oregon coast. we did at Ft Stevens several years ago and have never been back. Nothing bad about it, but the spots seemed rather close with limited privacy. but a trailer should be ok.

lisen to den he knows the parks.

and we do tend to favor the central, then south coast.

Will say we enjoyed the nearby area up close. good hitory in area,, with Lewis and Clark, Astoria, Ft Stevens.

If you have a big 5th wheel or very long BP (28%26#39; ft+) you will not fit in some of the loops. Some of the turns are very tight. Just over half of the sites have *sewer* hookup.

From the official SP website:

';174 full hookup, 302 electrical, 19 tent (maximum site 50 feet); 15 yurts; hiker/biker camping by request. For information only, (503) 861-1671 or (800) 551-6949. To make reservations, call (800) 452-5687.';

We have camped there the past couple of years during late July/earlyAugust. Have you checked on reservations?

I had a friend that wanted to join us for that time frame and there was only 1 camp site left for that weekend. FYI - Fort Steven is one of the largest state campgrounds in Oregon.

We like loops N %26amp; O because they don%26#39;t get as much traffic through them and these loops are close to the Lake. While it is not close to the playground, we enjoy being close to the lake.

Also we pull a 26 foot trailer when we camp. Yes there are hookups. Those loops don%26#39;t have sewer hookup.

Loops M and L are a bit more foresty type sites if you prefer more dense foliage.

I would be calling to see what availability is like for the week you are wanting to camp. We always have to reserve exactly 9 months in advance for summertime there. And even doing that, there weren%26#39;t alot of campsites available for the weekend we were headed there.

At Ft Stevens, the campsite makes all the difference. I have only camped there once and were were out making our dinner next to the other guys %26#39;full hook-up%26#39;(that was %26#39;in use%26#39; at the time) because the spaces were small in the area where we were. But after walking around the campground, there were alot of nice spots, but we didnt have one of them.
