Which Airport?

Hi All, I have enjoyed reading your forum posts and learning about Ashland and surrounding areas. My husband and I plan to visit in late May/early June. We will first stay and Bandon Dunes for at least 2 nights, then spend 3 nights in Ashland and then on to Beaverton (to visit friends) for a few nights. I am wondering what airport we should fly into. We will be arriving from Florida. We would enjoy a night in SFO, but is it too much driving? We would love your opinion. (And, just in case you are wondering, we cannot change the sequence of places, there are specific events at each that require we first go to Bandon Dunes, then to Ashland, then Beaverton). Portland. It%26#39;s between 4.5 and 5 hours to Bandon from Portland; close to twice as long from San Francisco. And Beaverton is a suburb of Portland, so only about a half hour from PDX.

You might be able to fly in to Medford, but I am sure it would cost you a pretty penny, and you would most likely have to change planes in Portland anyway. Then you could just drive to Portland and depart from PDX. Not sure if the extra drop fee on the rental car, and the additional cost of flying in to Medford would be worth it, but, it would put you on the southern half of the state.

If you were not planning to visit Portland, I%26#39;d say look into flights to Medford. I use the site yapta.com to monitor airfare and decide when to buy tickets.

But... since you are returning home via Beaverton (which is ';Portland-area';), you may as well fly into Portland. Consider driving from Portland over to the coast and then on down to Bandon. Try to stop for at least one night somewhere so that you can enjoy the scenery and break up the drive.

United connects thru SF to Medford, Bend/Redmond and most frequently to Eugene. Portland might be less expensive, but Eugene might be a more convenient choice. Your driving route to Bandon Dunes would be a bit more direct and shorter from Eugene, I think, than from Medford...and certainly shorter than from Portland. If you%26#39;re going to start your driving trip from SFO, you%26#39;ll have a pretty long drive to Bandon.
