portland weather, moving to portland

Can someone describe the seasons to me over there, as I am from from Florida.

How long is winter or summer and is there any snow in Portland? Can you ever swim on the beach or grow a vegetable garden? Icy roads in winter?

Also I was wondering about unemployment rates and crime?

Will there be a cultural shock and if so, how?

Thank you all, very much. Good luck to each.

As you probably know, TripAdvisor is designed for travelers, not real estate information or unemployment and crime rates.

When are you planning to visit?

I suggest you google for answers to your questions as there are many websites about Portland.

Definitely a cultural shock, and a climate shock. Probably a sun hunger in February, so plan for a sun trip about then.

The seasons: It is hot in August, but rarely humid. It rains steadily rather than tropical afternoon downpours. It snows, but the area is more known for rain. You can have a beautiful garden, but you need to grow varieties with short growing seasons or which are cold-hardy. You can swim on beach but not for long! There are surfers, but they wear wetsuits. Inland lakes are better for summer swims.

As a resident, you%26#39;ll have time to enjoy the area%26#39;s many gifts, including mountains, diverse ocean experiences, gardens, cultural events and more. You%26#39;ll be like us, a tourist who just happens to live here! There is much to do in the Pacific Northwest.
