Need your advice & help with trip plans

9 day trip flying in to Portland on Friday, June 5th. Plan to explore the city for a day. Will travel from Portland to Cannon Beach %26amp; down the coast to Newport area on Sat. Not sure whether to stay in Newport or drive a little inland to Corvallis or Albany. Sunday, will explore the wine region- 1 or 2 vineyards for wine tasting. Then, driving to Redmond to stay at Eagle Crest resort. Any golf suggestions? Will take day trips to Crater Lake, Eugene, Sisters, %26amp; Bend areas. Leaving 1 day early on Sat June 13th to go back to Portland %26amp; have a day to see the Columbia River Gorge area. I hope the snow melts early! Any advice or suggestions on things I should not miss?

Other than the wine tasting, what are your interests?

A lot of the higher Cascades will still be snowbound, but some of the lower falls, lakes and rivers will be accessible.

Thought we would enjoy the coast views mostly around Cannon Beach, go to Cheese Factory in Tillamook, visit the aquarium. Sightseeing, golf, wine tasting, waterfalls, some hiking. Not a snowbird, so don%26#39;t plan on any type of skiing. Really just like to take in a few sites, enjoy the different landscapes %26amp; beautiful views, pack a picnic lunch %26amp; chill out. Have never visited the west coast, except for California-LA/San Fran. From North Carolina %26amp; I know the pictures I have seen are gorgeous.

Silver Falls State Park, about 20 miles east of Salem, is one of our favorite recommendations and it fits nicely into your touring of the wine country. In early June all the falls will be at full force and you can do an easy loop that includes 10 falls (including a few where the trail goes behind the falls).

Once you settle on a more specific itinerary, we%26#39;ll offer more ideas that fit into your plans.

Portland to Newport via Cannon Beach is already too much to jam into a day, much less going inland to Corvallis or Albany. And I%26#39;d suggest continuing south on hwy 101 before turning inland anyway. There are great views between Newport and Florence that you really shouldn%26#39;t miss.

You could then head to Redmond by way of Eugene, where there a several nice wineries; King Estates %26amp; Silvan Ridge are two. But understand that the heart of wine country is further north, around Newberg, McMinnville, and Carlton.

Golf courses.... I%26#39;ve never been a fan of either of the two at Eagle Crest. Juniper, in Redmond, I think is much better. And, west of Eagle Crest, almost to Sisters, is Aspen Lakes, also a nice track. Also consider Big Meadow, in Black Butte Ranch, 10 miles west of Sisters. That all said, it would be worth rearranging your entire itinerary to play a couple rounds at Bandon Dunes.

Perhaps these might help.

Agree with mistletoe about Portland -%26gt; Cannon Beach -%26gt; Newport in one day. I%26#39;ve done it but it%26#39;s tiring and you won%26#39;t have much time for many stops :-(

Portland folks, isn%26#39;t June 5/6 the busy Rose Festival / parade days?

Good point, half-Brit. But Rose Festival events need not affect Bluepper%26#39;s plans; in fact, they might make Friday%26#39;s ';exploration'; more fun. Depending on where they%26#39;re planning to stay though, the parade could make getting out of town on Saturday a bit difficult.

Do you have reservations for the 5th yet, Bluepper? Hotels usually fill up around Rose Festival dates.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Yes, we have reservations in Portland for the 5th. Will look a little closer at my schedule %26amp; rearrange things as you suggested.
