My buddy and I are comming to the coast in September. We cant decide which is better to stay, Cannon Beach or Seaside? Its just for one night. Looking for something in town on the water.
Seaside vs Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach would probably have more rooms with waterfront views. CB is a quieter town. Seaside is a favorite w/ partying students
Seaside vs Cannon Beach
What are your interests? We have a beach cottage in Seaside and love both places. Seaside has the prom for walking, a nice stretch of beach for walking, jogging, kite flying. There is a small aquarium in Seaside and the Historic Gilbert District for antique shopping and also some outlets. There is the Yummy Wine Bar which is one of our favorite places on the coast. www.seasideor.com is a nice website for this area.
Cannon Beach has Haystack Rock, Ecola State Park and Indian Beach where we love to surf. The lodging will be more expensive in Cannon Beach, what is your budget? The Ocean Lodge and the Stephanie Inn are two great places right on the ocean in Cannon Beach, they have a sister property called Inn of the Four Winds in Seaside. Wherever you stay, they are only 10 minutes apart so you can see both areas. www.cannon-beach. net Enjoy your time at the coast! :)
My personal preference is for Cannon Beach. I do not care for Seaside at all.
That said, in September it is still high season here and most places require a 2 night stay.
The place we always stay is the Surfsand, which is in Cannon Beach and right on the water. A short walk to the heart of downtown, but also close to Haystack Rock. The location is excellent, as is the hotel.
Syrah, no the Ocean Lodge is not a sister property of those others that you listed. The Surfsand is.
Not only that, Mtngrl, but Ocean Lodge and Stephanie Inn are a long walk from downtown. Not to mention that Stephanie Inn is predominantly a couples place. But maybe ';buddy'; = significant other? The only two beachfront hotels actually in town (that I can think of, anyway) are Inn at Schooner%26#39;s Cove and Land%26#39;s End. And, I%26#39;m thinking Land%26#39;s End might not have a minimum stay requirement.
I also prefer Cannon Beach, as Seaside%26#39;s downtown has too much of a carnival atmosphere, which just seems out of place on the Oregon coast. More fitting for the Jersey Shore.

Budget?
What are *you* looking for?
Cannon Beach lodging may still have two night minimums, Seaside maybe not.
Aaahhh, back in the day, UVM...
Curious about your itinerary because, if only one night, wonder how much time you%26#39;ll take driving the coast and if have ever been here before. Knowing the itinerary can lead to better ';on the water'; ideas.
BTW, on this forum we had an endless, amusing, discussion as to whether there were more cows in VT or OR, both absolutely and per capita.
