We are thinking of spending our last night before flying home in Cannon Beach. It looks like it would take about 2 hours to drive to the Portland airport. Are there usually any traffic tie ups or problems on Saturday mornings in August from Cannon Beach to Portland? Would this be an advisable thing to do?
Cannon Beach to Portland Airport?
Do you have enough of a ';time cushion'; that if there was some sort of unexpected accident, you could still get to the airport with enough time before your flight?
Cannon Beach to Portland Airport?
Most of us plan 90 minutes from Portland to Cannon Beach, and PDX would add another 15 to that, so 2 hours should be safe. And, other than road construction or something unexpected, there shouldn%26#39;t be any traffic problems on a Saturday morning.
Good idea to squeeze every minute you can get out of the Oregon coast.
Couldn%26#39;t agree more with half-Brit%26#39;s advice!
First of all, I%26#39;d estimate 2 1/2 hours under good conditions (if you have to turn in your rental car, add some more time).
We live in Eugene and often fly out of PDX. It should take us 2 to 2 1/2 hours, but I prefer to allow for at least 3 or 4. Many of the routes don%26#39;t lend themselves well to alternates in case of accidents. I once spent an extra hour getting through Salem because of an accident caused detour. And, coming back from PDX, I once got trapped in a 4-hour mess around Wilsonville. And back-up traffic on the 205 has given me frequent fits.
Coming from the coast, you%26#39;d be in a real pickle if #26 got shut down (I%26#39;m supposing that would be your route).
Mistletoe apparently drives faster than I do and has better luck!
I would agree with allowing extra time, just in case. Weekend mornings are usually fine. However, IF an accident occurred along the way, you%26#39;d have a big problem. As Oregonpoppa said, there really aren%26#39;t alternate routes if you find yourself behind an accident along Hwy 26.
My suggestion, stay at the coast, but allow more than two hours to get back. It may be boring to be at the airport longer than you wanted, but a lot less frustrating than getting their after your flight has departed.
While you have a couple of options to get to PDX from Cannon Beach, I usually take hwy 217 from hwy 26 over to I-5 then on to I-205. Problem being, 217 can be a bear sometimes! Of course, downtown almost always is, which is why I take my chances on 217.
I%26#39;d allow 2 hrs.
Just putting in my .02, but I agree with everyone else. Allow at least 2 hours. You really never know when an accident can tie up highway 26.
sorry folks im going to disagree with this one- even without turning a car in you cant do cannon beach to the airport in 2 hrs -- would be willing to bet a beer that it would take closer to 3 hrs (that means anything over 2 hr 30 min i win--3 hrs pays me double)
I have driven from Troutdale to Cannon Beach numerous times and barring accidents or road construction, 2 hours is good. I would add in an extra hour just to be safe (nothing worse than rushing for a flight). Saturday mornings coming back from the coast shouldn%26#39;t be too bad for traffic. Most of the traffic will be people from here heading over for the day.
Excuse us while we debate this, Hulagirl. ;-)
Heck, I admit to being a bit of a lead foot, but it%26#39;s only 90 miles. And it%26#39;s not as if you%26#39;ve got to pass through a bunch of towns with stoplights and traffic.
I%26#39;m the type who, if it%26#39;s advised to be at the airport 2 hours before a flight, plan to have parked or returned a rental car so that I%26#39;m at the terminal at the recommended time. I don%26#39;t know how they come up with 2 hours, but I think there%26#39;s a bunch of cushion built into that, because I always find myself waiting for 45 - 60 minutes before the flight begins boarding.
