Stay in Yachats, eat in Florence?

I%26#39;ve spent some time reading the many informative posts regarding the Oregon Coast. We%26#39;re headed there next week (yeah!). We usually stay in Cannon Beach at the Stephanie Inn, but this trip we%26#39;re going to venture further south for a few days. From what I%26#39;ve read, it sounds like we should stay in Yachats, but eat in Florence. Is that correct?

Again, thank you for taking the time to write such informative posts. They have really helped us plan our trip!

There are definitely more restaurants to choose from in Florence, but there are a couple in Yachats that aren%26#39;t too bad. The Drift Inn is as good as anything in Florence, the Adobe does a nice breakfast and lunch isn%26#39;t too shabby either, and Leroy%26#39;s Blue Whale still has the best fish-n-chips on the coast.

Well, definitely stay in Yachats, lol!

The River House in Yachats has some very good reviews:

The Adobe has a fantastic view, but their service is uneven and the food is fair to good. Their signature crab pot is always quite good, but you just never know about some of the other menu items. That%26#39;s for dinner. Now that I think about it, I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve ever eaten breakfast there. Lunch does seem to be more consistent.

Leroy%26#39;s used to be good . . . but since they started their downhill slide we have not eaten there in a year or more. So F%26amp;C may still be good.

The Drift Inn has poor reviews and may have very loud music.

The Pomodori in Florence is *very* popular - we have yet to go there because of scheduling, but folks do drive down from Waldport %26amp; Yachats.

Keep in mind that Newport is about 30 minutes north, via a very straight, fast road vs. Florence at 35 minutes south with a winding, cliff-top (although very scenic) road. Newport has many good restaurants:

Note that #2 Panache has changed hands I think and does not appear to be busy anymore, and I would *not* recommend Port Dock 1. Local Ocean Seafoods, Georgie%26#39;s, Quimby%26#39;s, Shark%26#39;s . . . all are very good.

Meant to include this for the River House:

Thank you so much for the info. I keep forgetting the winding roads vs. straight roads time difference.

We have only spent a few hours in Newport. We puttered along the road on the bay side. We ate at the Rogue Public House and laughed at the Sea Lions. Oh, then we went to the actual Rogue brewery . . . but that is all we know of Newport. We%26#39;re looking forward to seeing more of it this trip. My hubby wants to explore the Nye Beach area this trip. And he is VERY excited about the sand dunes.

I just have to reply about Leroy%26#39;s in Yachats...we were just there and maybe because I%26#39;m from the east coast I am saying this,...but Leroy%26#39;s was the worst fish and chips I have ever had and my husband had I believe scallops...all in all we would never recommend this restaurant...it was not good for us at all...sorry.

Drift Inn reviews are mixed, but predominantly quite positive. Read them and you will find that individual dishes and individual tastes were some of the issues, as in any restaurant. As noted in reviews, seafood lasagna was excellent. The music can be a bit loud, because of the room%26#39;s acoustics, not the musicians, but on every occasion there, the guitarists or duo were playing nice songs and quite well.

Nothing to be sorry about, bulbasaur! Leroy%26#39;s is a local restaurant for us, and we *used to* eat there a lot, as they were close, cheap and pretty good.

But about two, two and half years ago, their prices went up and their quality went down and after a couple of poor experiences we have not been back since. We often see just a car or two there in the evenings at dinner time . . .

Wonder how MissingPNW%26#39;s holiday was on the coast?
