I will be in Salem on a business trip at the end of May. I have to work on Saturday until about 1:30 then have the rest of Saturday and all day Sunday to do what I want. Should I try to go to the Oregon coast, stay in Salem or go to Silver Falls. I have never been to OR so I would like to get out and see this part of the country. Bear in mind I%26#39;m not real athletic. If I do go to the coast what is the best place to go? Thanks for the imput...
What to do in a weekend
You can do Silver Falls on that Saturday afternoon quite easily. Then Sunday I would head over to the coast. Since you are staying in Salem, head over and see Lincoln City/Depoe Bay/Newport. The aquarium in Newport is really good so don%26#39;t miss that.

The great thing about Silver Falls SP is that you don%26#39;t have to be super athletic to enjoy the trails. You can do the 8 mile loop, or you can focus on the main falls. You can do it in bits and pieces. We didn%26#39;t have time to do the entire loop, as we were on our way to Bend from the Lincoln City area, but the nice thing was that the trails weren%26#39;t overly difficult. The falls are lovely, and some can walk behind.
If you go over to Newport, you might be able to check out Yaquina Head Lighthouse. There are also tide pools nearby that are interesting if you time them right.
Have fun.
I%26#39;d also suggest Silver Falls, and if you aren%26#39;t into hiking don%26#39;t worry! You can see the spectacular South Falls with a very easy 10 minute walk, and it%26#39;s cool to walk behind the falls. This will give you more info about the different falls:

Coast - will this be Memorial Day weekend? If so, avoid the road into Lincoln City and avoid Lincoln City itself! It will be far too crowded.
Silver Falls is a nice spot but If the ocean calls you, head there. Lincoln City is a bit crazy so due west of Salem, 1.25 hours is a small town of Pacific City. From there you can do the Three Capes Scenic Drive. Beaches, rain forests, tidal flats, prairies and rocky headlands, the best of what the Oregon Coast has to offer. Great food, beer and wine in Pacific City!
Saturday afternoon should be plenty of time for Silver Falls. The South Falls loop is an easy walk with handrails along slippery sections.
I agree with Mike... if you head to the coast go to Pac City and Netarts.
While in Salem please check out the Riverfront Park. There%26#39;s a hand-carved wooden carousel, eco-earth sculpture, and nice views of the river. Also they just finished refurbishing the old railroad bridge at the North end of the park as a pedestrian walkway.
