We are planning a motor cycle trip with 3 other couples in August. We would like to find a place for 4 nights that sleeps 8 and has a deck with view and hot tob but that is central and a good location for day trips from there. I have found some really nice accomodations at Depoe Bay - what do you think? We would love to be able to walk from our accomodations too; for meals and shopping. Can anyone suggest a good area that would accomodate all of that. We want to do some riding and see the sights of the Oregon coast. Any suggestions would be great.
Where best to stay and see as much as possible
Are you looking for lodging in Portland as well, since you posted in this forum?
Depoe Bay is small enough to walk to the couple of decent restaurants, but there is not much in the way of shopping there. I don%26#39;t think there is a grocery store; the closest one is in Lincoln Beach to the north of town.
The Oregon coast is a long thin section, so day trips are either north or south if you want to stay on the coast. Depoe Bay is near the middle. August is very busy, so book soon if you decide on your lodging.

It sounds like you need to investigate the vrbo website for such information; I%26#39;ve seen this referenced on this forum before, but haven%26#39;t used it myself. Depoe Bay would be a central location for you, but I agree that it is very small. You might be more comfortable in a larger spot like Lincoln City or Newport as they have more options for meals and shopping, and I think that you could find a location that would suit your ';walkability'; requirement.
I just realized that I%26#39;m assuming you mentioned coastal accomodations because you want to explore the coast- if you are just looking for a good place to use as a base for general exploring then Portland would work as well as anywhere- you would have easy day trip access to the gorge, Mt. Hood, wine regions, Mt. St. Helens and the coast.
Perhaps a little more explanation of your plan would help...
So we have re-thought our trip and have booked 2 nights in Seaside to start and then will travel south. We have decided that staying in one place is not practical on the Oregon coast. We would like to stay in a couple of towns along the way south ; each for one night in a relatively nice hotel. Would you suggest our next stop be Florence, Yachats, or Bandon?(after Seaside?) I know that we will be stopping lots along the way, so I am thinking that those may be far enough, but do you think we should look at Lincoln City to stay one night. We want to end up at Crescent City Calif, and then head back up north again to Grants Pass. Any suggestions or info you can give is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Do you want to stay in Crescent City? Or is it simply where you%26#39;ll head back up into Oregon?
I%26#39;ll suggest Yachats - check out the Overleaf Lodge or the Fireside. Both same ownership and location, the Overleaf is pricier and fancier with a spa.
That%26#39;s one night - did you have one more?
Brookings has the Best Western Beachfront Inn with a great location practically on the sand. Gold Beach has the Gold Beach Inn or Gold Beach Resort, among others. The Pacific Reef has new condos that are nice, but pretty spendy. All Gold Beach lodging is set back about 100 yards from the ocean behind some very small sand dunes.
If you want to go all the way to Crescent City, there is the Hampton ($$$) with an awesome location or the more reasonable Anchor Beach Inn.
